You must submit proof of travel / medical coverage at the beginning of the semester. Please work with your study abroad offices to assist you in obtaining insurance. SCH has a free on-campus clinic for minor things but without insurance health care can get expensive.

You may bring your own health insurance or purchase health insurance once you are here in Korea. We have a company that we work with that provides health insurance. The prices are 70,000 won (~$60 USD) for 6 months, 100,000 won (~$85 USD) for 1 year. These prices are subject to change. The insurance coverage is as below (The coverage is subject to change) :

Insurance Coverage Insured Amount
Accident Death KRW 30,000,000
Sickness Death KRW 10,000,000
Accident Hospital bill KRW 10,000,000
Outpatient fee KRW 250,000
Prescription fee KRW 50,000
Sickness Hospital bill KRW 10,000,000
Outpatient fee KRW 250,000
Prescription fee KRW 50,000
Special costs KRW 10,000,000
If you decide to purchase health insurance in Korea, you will do so during the first week of the semester so you will need medical travel insurance that covers you up until that point. Insurance purchased in Korea only provides coverage within Korea. Whether you purchase health insurance in your home country or you purchase health insurance here, you will have to pay the full medical bill, save the receipts and then submit the receipts to your health insurance provider. If you purchase health insurance here in Korea, there will be a small personal cost you need to pay at the hospital and if the bill exceeds the personal cost, it will be covered by insurance. (Basically, you have to pay a small deductible.)
